After The Quake by smallvillian After The Quake by smallvillian
[Please download for much larger version. You'll be able to read the text]

This was for school,
We were given a bunch of texts and short stories, to choose from to interpret into comic strip things (although they were a lot bigger, like the size of the wall).

We had to choose two stories (and comics), and the text i used for this one was an extract from "All God's Children Can Dance" from Haruki Murakami's book of short stories "After The Quake"

"Yoshiya woke with the worst possible hangover. He could barely manage to open one eye; the left lid wouldn't budge. His head felt as if it had been stuffed with decaying teeth during the night. A foul sludge was oozing from his rotting gums and eating away at his brain from the inside. If he ignored it, he wouldn't have a brain left. Which would be all right. Just a little more sleep: that's all he wanted. But he knew it was out of the question. He felt too awful to sleep."

Yeah. That is actually about a hangover.
And my version is a little different.

These are photo's of drawings, I made a little set out of boxes.

This was pretty Smallville inspired.
Oh and the second page of this, kinda remind's me of Charmed, in the second to last episode when the house exploded and Piper was waking up in the rubble. Oooh I feel like a re-watch.

:) Download.

Ps. As I mentioned we had to make 2 comic strips. The other one i made sucked. But I might add it into my scraps later.

Okay, this is cool. Really cool. The fact that it is from a Haruki Murakami short story is just frosting. Really cool frosting.
(His fiction is wild, but I like the non-fiction like UNDERGROUND, about the Aum Shinrikyu (sp?) gas attack...)

I like how you've combined the 3dimensional effect with the flat figures and the real features (liquid) with the photoshoped (explotion). Really creative. You must be bored to hear from everyone how creative you are, ...but it's true!! :)

I've been trying to understand what the story is about, but from what you've shown us, it looks absolutely amazing. These are all hand-built sets? All photos? My god you're amazing.

I hope you got a REALLY good grade on this! It's fantastic!

Sorry, I forgot to reply to this,

I wouldn't say hand "built" they're just shoe box's really, and the city scape things are those rolls you get when you buy rolls of fabric.

And yep, all photos, manipulated in photoshop, like the building lights and the meteors. :)

Thanks so much
(And I was very happy with my grade, haha)
